This is the winning piece byu the weavers of Chahauytire community and is entitled “matrimonio”. I have to admit that this had me scratching my head at first wondering about somethign so plain from weavers renowned fro their intricate pick up patterns until I realized that this piece is made up of thirty-six individual sqaures of 30 by 30 centimeters, each woven by a different weaver. Imagine!! I can’t even begin to imagine how difficult it would be to create a four-selvedge piece that came out exactly 30 cm long. And thirty-six weavers had to turn out pieces with the same level of exactitude so that they could be pieced together with no puckering or stretching…AMAZING!!
