All that beautifully prepared fiber now has to be dyed. At left in coastal Ecuador, Alejandro, one of Luz’s grandsons is cutting a limb from the moral tree. We had to ride into the hills up behind the house on donkeys t find this one tree in a gulley. The dried heartwood produces a strong yellow. At right, my teacher Julia is preparing plant material for a day of dyeing.
